Therapy for Children

Whether your child is not yet talking, has difficulties with speech or language, or you are looking for support while waiting for other services, we can help you understand your child’s communication needs and identify practical ways to support them.

Our service is assessment-led. Following a comprehensive assessment, we will discuss our findings and recommendations with you and consider whether targeted therapy would be beneficial for your child.

Where therapy is recommended, up to a maximum of four therapy sessions may be offered following the assessment. These sessions are focused on your child’s individual needs and are designed to give you practical strategies, guidance and confidence that you can continue to use at home.

Therapy sessions provide an opportunity to:

  • Work towards specific goals identified through the assessment.

  • Model and demonstrate strategies that support your child’s communication.

  • Practise strategies together and discuss how they can be incorporated into everyday routines.

  • Answer your questions and help you feel confident supporting your child at home.

  • Review how strategies are working and make adjustments where appropriate.

  • Work collaboratively with parents/carers and, where appropriate, other professionals involved in your child’s care.

Sessions are typically 45–60 minutes, depending on your child’s needs and the focus of the session. Parent/carer involvement is encouraged and, in most cases, you will remain in the clinic room with your child.

Our approach is fun, engaging and child-centred, and sessions are adapted to your child’s age, communication profile, interests and preferences.

The aim of this focused therapy block is not simply to provide therapy within the clinic, but to equip you with practical strategies that can be embedded into everyday life and continued at home.

Please note: We do not currently offer ongoing weekly or long-term therapy. The service provides assessment followed, where appropriate, by a maximum of four targeted therapy sessions.
